Chintaman Vinayak Joshi was born on January 19, 1892 in Pune. After finishing his high school education in 1909 at Pune's Nutan Marathi Vidyalaya, he received a bachelor's degree in Philosophy from Fergusson College in 1913 and a master's degree in Pali and English literature from Mumbai University two years later.

Following the death of Indian Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi becomes head of the Congress Party and thus she becomes Indian prime minister on January 19, 1966. She was India's first female head of government and by the time of her assassination in 1984 was one of its most controversial.
